TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

PASSPORT - The application for a passport is submitted in person.

A passport is a travel document of a Croatian citizen proving the identity and Croatian citizenship. It is issued with a validity period of 5 years (persons younger than 21 years) or with a validity period of 10 years (persons older than 21 years).

There is no possibility to have children in the travel document of a parent or legal representative. Children as well as all other persons under the age of 21 are issued their own passports with a validity period of 5 years.

Citizens residing abroad can submit a request for the issuance of a passport to the relevant Diplomatic or Consular Office of the Republic of Croatia in whose territory they reside continuously for more than three months.

For minors, the application for a travel document is submitted by both parents or by one of the parents with the written consent of the other parent.

If the passport is issued to a child whose parents are divorced or if for some other reason parental rights are exercised by only one parent, the application is submitted by the parent to whom the child is entrusted for custody by a court or competent guardianship authority.
The application for the issuance of a passport for incapacitated persons is submitted by the legal representative with a written decision of the competent authority.
To apply for a passport, the following must be attached:
• one 3.5 x 4.5 cm photograph (emphasize to the photographer to make a photograph for the biometric passport - more details at http://www.mup.hr/44.aspx)
• the old passport, which will be revoked and returned (immediately, if it has already expired, or upon delivery of a new one; note to the consular officer if visas are valid in the passport so as not to physically damage them);
• birth certificate;
• “domovnica”;
• proof of legal residence in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan (residence permit, registration etc.);
• proof of identity (if the passport has expired or if the application is made for the first time).

If the applicant for the issuance of a passport has entered into a marriage abroad and changed her surname, the passport cannot be issued with the new surname before the marriage is registered at the birth register and the marriage register in the Republic of Croatia.

Issuing a passport takes 4-5 weeks.

REPORTING THE DISAPPEARANCE OF A CROATIAN PASSPORT

The citizen is obliged to report the disappearance of the travel document or its finding without delay. If the travel document is missing or stolen abroad, the citizen should immediately report it to the relevant police station where the passport disappeared or was stolen or where its disappearance was noticed.

It should be emphasized to the police that it is a Croatian passport, which should be clearly stated in the police record. This record should be kept and immediately submitted to the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Nur-Sultan, so that, after the procedure and determination of the circumstances of the disappearance, a decision can be issued declaring the missing passport invalid.

A legally prescribed consular fee is paid for the issuance of a decision.
The decision to declare a travel document invalid must be announced by the citizen at his own expense in the Official Gazette (address: Kralja Držislava 14, Zagreb), for which the prescribed fee is paid.

Only on the basis of the decision declaring the travel document invalid and the confirmation of the advertisement published in the Official Gazette, a citizen can submit a request for the issuance of a new passport.

ISSUING OF TRAVEL PASS

A travel pass is a travel document of a Croatian citizen issued to a citizen who is found abroad without a travel document (disappearance, loss or expiration of the passport) for the purpose of returning to the Republic of Croatia.
