Fra Ivica Strcic Completed his Service at the CCM of St. Jerome

The Croatian Catholic Mission of St. Jerome in Johannesburg is the only Croatian church on the African continent. At the same time, St. Jerome is the central connecting point for the Croatian community living in South Africa. Over the past years, under the leadership of a Croatian priest, Fra Ivica Karmelo Strcic, the Mission had been the center of religious and spiritual activity; and in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Pretoria, often a place of numerous cultural, artistic, historical, scientific, educational, humanitarian and sports events. On Sunday, October 6th, longtime Head of the Mission, Fra Ivica, originally from the Island of Krk, who had been serving in Johannesburg since 1995, completed his almost 25-years-long-work with the Croatian expat community in South Africa. A festive thanksgiving Mass was attended by numerous Community members, as well as by the Embassy staff. Fra Ivica will be returning to Kampor on the Island of Rab. In order for the Croatian and Catholic identity of the Community to be preserved in the future, a new Croatian priest is expected to serve at the Mission.
