“Ova klapa”, small Dalmatian male a cappella choir, organized on 11th November 2006 at the Croatian Catholic Centre of St. Jerome's in Houghton (Johannesburg) a charity fish dinner.
The members of the choir – all from the same small town of Vela Luka at the southern Croatian island of Korcula – cooked the dinner themselves, and did it very well!
Despite all the heat of barbecue endured, they found enough energy to entertain the audience with a few songs.
All proceeds from the dinner went for the town brass band of Vela Luka to buy new musical instruments. It is a sincere wish of the Klapa members (?ani Anic, Željko Bacic, Danko Dragojevic, Dario Farcic, Dinko Surjan and Njegoš Tasovac; coordinator: Branko Mladina), in their own words, to help the children and young adults of their hometown to start playing music.
That should help “drag” them away from the drugs and other negative influences. All the diplomats from the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Pretoria, headed by Ambassador Ivan Picukaric, took part at the dinner.
