Well-received Zagreb Saxophone Quartet concert held last nigh in Brussels
The Cultural Promotion Department of the MFAEI, in co-operation with the Ministry of Culture, organised last night, 17 March 2005 in Brussels, as a part of the Croatia culture promotion project, a well-received concert by the eminent Zagreb Saxophone Quartet
The capacity audience at the Brussels City Hall auditorium, which included numerous dignitaries from the European and Belgian public, political and cultural life, applauded the young members of the Zagreb Saxophone Quartet. Saxophone virtuosos Dragan Sremec, Goran Merčep, Saša Nestorović and Matjaž Drevenšek performed compositions by Mozart, Papandopulo and Detoni. Having performed the announced program, the Zagreb saxophonists performed a number of additional pieces by audience’s demand, which applauded them the whole time. Their success is all the more greater knowing that Belgium is the homeland of saxophone – it was crafted in mid-19th century by a Belgian Antoine Joseph Sax, from the city of Dinant. Yesterday’s concert clearly demonstrated Croatia’s cultural and actual belonging to Europe. It was the 5th cultural event in the last three years that is a part of the co-operation of the Republic of Croatia with the Kingdom of Belgium and its capital Brussels.
