They confirmed that the process of ratification of Croatia's EU Accession Treaty would begin on Thursday, expressing their expectation that the ratification bill would be supported by a majority of MPs or even unanimously. “The EU is in a tough situation and Croatia is coming with a very constructive position," Spanish MPs were quoted as saying.

Pusić thanked them for their support and readiness to ratify the Treaty, adding that she expected that the European Commission's progress report on Croatia, which is due to be released 10 October, would be favourable and would confirm that Croatia was on the right track.

Also discussed were economic relations between Croatia and Spain, and the Spanish side expressed interest in rail infrastructure projects in Croatia.

Among other topics discussed were fiscal and banking issues in the EU, as well as the situation in the Southern Mediterranean and Southeast Europe.
