The Republic of Croatia has been a UN member since 1992 and is taking part in its activities through is permanent missions in New York, Vienna and Geneva, as well as to the UNESCO in Paris. During its membership, Croatia has grown from a country hosting the largest UN peacekeeping mission into a country participating in 13 UN peacekeeping operations on four continents; from a recipient country into a country offering development assistance.

Croatia has gradually, through numerous activities, strengthened its recognisability within the UN system. In that regard, it is worth pointing out that Croatia was a member of ECOSOC and the Peacebuilding Commission, and is since 2008 a non-permanent member of the Security Council.

As a non-permanent Security Council member, Croatia continues to act as a responsible partner, dedicated to the joint effort of building and maintaining peace through the promotion of human rights and democracy, eradication of poverty and injustice, and promotion of effective multilateralism.

Further more, Croatia also stands out within the UN system with its activities in economic and social issues, and especially as a provider of armed forces for UN peacekeeping missions.
