Two war crime suspects extradited to Croatia from Greece

Ernest Rađen and Dušan Maslovar were extradited to Croatia, following the decision by the Greek authorities approving the extradition for the purposes of criminal prosecution before the Croatian justice. The extradition took place 30 April 2008

The Croatian side would like to thank all of the relevant Greek authorities, namely the Ministry of Justice, for their professional stance towards the extradition requests and the understanding for the indictment for war crimes committed in Croatia. Such co-operation is yet another verification of the two countries’ well-developed relations and co-operation.

It should be pointed out that Croatia has confirmed it is fully, unquestionably and forthrightly co-operating with the ICTY, while at the same time paying full attention to the war crime prosecution before the home courts.

Such an approach requires understanding and investing maximum professional effort from all of the relevant Croatian bodies. In these two cases, the extraditions are the result of a joint judicial and diplomatic engagement in the past two years since the extraditions were requested.

The Croatian Ministry of Justice submitted in October 2006 a request to the Hellenic Republic’s Ministry of Justice for the extradition of Ernest Rađen, so that he could stand trial before the Zadar County Court on charges of war crimes against civilians.

The extradition of Dušan Maslovar, against whom the Sisak County Court has launched investigation proceedings for war crimes against civilians, was requested in July 2006.
