The 5th Session of the Joint Committee for the Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Government of the Republic of Hungary

The 5th Session of the Joint Committee for the Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Government of the Republic of Hungary was held in Budapest on Wednesday, December 6, 2006.

The Delegations, composed of experts from the relevant Ministries, were headed by State Secretary for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia Hido Biščević and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Hungary Fekszi Horváth.

Confirming the particularly good relationship between the two countries, State Secretary Horváth praised the progress that the Republic of Croatia was making on its way to full membership in the European Union and expressed the satisfaction with the fact that, at the Summit in Riga, Croatia received a signal to expect an invitation to join NATO in 2008. On this path, she stressed, the Republic of Hungary shall continue to support the Republic of Croatia unreservedly.

Welcoming the results of the joint session of the two Governments, held in Budapest on January 26, 2006, chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Hungary, and manifested in the signing of several international instruments – from an International Agreement to several programs and a Joint Statement – they stated that the joint Governments’ session had become an important institution in the development of bilateral relationships which will, with further effective strengthening of intergovernmental cooperation, actively encourage further improvement of relationships between the national political and economic institutions, as well as local government, and business circles and economic factors of the two countries.

In relation to the EU external borders, State Secretary Biščević expressed the hope that the Republic of Hungary would continue to support, in consultation with the Republic of Slovenia and the Italian Republic, the preservation of the present border-crossing regime which allows the citizens of both countries to cross borders by showing their identity card.
