State Secretary at the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hido Biščević and Assistant Foreign Minister Neven Madey had today, 3 March, in Zagreb a working lunch the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zlatko Dizdarević, Macedonian Ambassador Mahi Nesimi, Ambassador of Serbia and Montenegro Milan Simurdić and Head of the European Commission's Delegation to Croatia, Ambassador Jacques Wunenberger
The two Croatian officials informed their colleagues about the progress in the political dialogue between Croatia and the EU and about the meeting of the membership criteria. They stressed the importance of regional co-operation and the implementation of the Thessaloniki Declaration conclusions, especially in view of the possible EU membership perspective for all countries in this part of Europe. Assistant Minister Madey reported on the recent talks regarding the drawing up of Opinion on Croatia’s membership status and the political dialogue meeting between Croatia and the EU Troika.
The meeting mentioned the economic co-operation and relations between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbian and Montenegro in view of realising EU’s goals and priorities in the energy sector, transport, port building and environment protection.
All parties agreed on the importance of further developing mutual relations, concluding that co-operation between countries in this parts of Europe need to be taken out of the context of the break-up of former state union and placed into the context of realising the EU membership on individual basis and through mutual co-operation.
