Talks with incoming ambassadors of Slovakia and Qatar

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić received on inaugural visits Slovakian Ambassador Juraj Priputen and Qatari Ambassador Moza Nasser Al-Thani.

Priputen expressed satisfaction with the status of Slovakian national minority and the overall bilateral relations between Slovakia and Croatia. “We are happy that Croatia is our partner in the EU,” he said. He announced his plans to work on strengthening the economic dimension of the relations, which includes using honorary consuls, and underlined that opening consulates in Osijek and Split had proved an excellent choice given the large number of Slovakian tourists. Priputen said Slovakia had introduced a new model of economic diplomacy in 2011 and was still working on improving it. Pusić and Priputen also discussed preparations for entering the Schengen Area, with Priputen stressing that Slovakia, as before, was willing to transfer its experiences given its position on the outer EU border.

Ambassador Moza Nasser Al-Thani is the first residential ambassador of Qatar to Croatia. In the past, Qatar covered Croatia non-residentially from Berlin.

Minister Pusić and the Qatari ambassador agreed that Croatia and Qatar had good bilateral relations, as evident from the last year’s visit by a Croatian delegation to Qatar and the upcoming visit by Qatar business delegation to Croatia. Our two countries are interested in cooperating on development and humanitarian projects in post-conflict countries, Pusić said, pointing out that Croatia had realized several projects in Afghanistan, the latest of which is building a midwife training hospital, and that there was a possibility of cooperating with Qatar on such projects.
