State Secretary Pejčinović-Burić met with NATO Assistant Secretary General Martin Erdmann

State Secretary for European Integration at the MFAEI Marija Pejčinović-Burić met today, 3 March 2006, with the NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Martin Erdmann

State Secretary Pejčinović-Burić pointed out that NATO membership is one of Croatia’s basic foreign policy goals. In that context, Croatia will continue to work on acceding to NATO as soon as possible and its further contribution to the stability in South East Europe. She added that Croatia is committed to the co-operation with other NATO-aspiring countries and is willing to transfer its experiences and knowledge in that process.

Assistant Secretary General Erdmann commended Croatia’s progress so far in approaching NATO and expressed the continuation of the support to Croatia along that road. He pointed out the importance of informing the Croatian public about the full NATO membership and its advantages, which also includes Croatia’s equal position among other NATO members in the decision-making, since in that democratic and political alliance all decisions are reached by consensus.
