State Secretary for European Integration Marija Pejčinović Burić met on 5 July 2007 with the Deputy Head of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Enlargement and Co-Chair of the Stabilisation and Association Committee, Christian Danielsson

The two talked about the current state of affairs and further course of Croatia’s EU membership negotiations, as well as the European Commission’s Progress Report, to be presented this fall.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the opening of six new negotiation chapters at the Intergovernmental Accession Conference between Croatia and the EU. State Secretary Pejčinović Burić also pointed out that the agreement reached at the European Council represents an encouragement for Croatia’s membership negotiations.

State Secretary Pejčinović Burić and Deputy Head of European Commission’s DG Enlargement Danielsson also discussed the fulfilment of the remaining obligations from the Stabilisation and Association Agreement. The two exchanged opinions on the completion of the negotiations and the pending initiation of the Enlargement Protocol onto the SAA, in regard to Bulgaria and Romania’s entry to the EU membership. The two further discussed the topics concerning the restructuring of the steel and shipbuilding sectors.
