State Secretary Pejčinović Burić met Under-Secretary of State Normunds Popens
State Secretary for European Integration Ms. Marija Pejčinović Burić met on Wednesday, 13 June 2007, Under-Secretary of State for EU issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Mr. Normunds Popens
State Secretary Pejčinović Burić informed Under-Secretary of State Popens about the course of Croatia’s negotiation process for full EU membership, and about Croatia’s expectancies in the upcoming period. She expressed gratitude for Latvia’s support to Croatia’s accession to full EU membership.
State Secretary Pejčinović Burić also mentioned Croatia’s activities concerning joining NATO membership, and expressed hope for further active support of the Republic of Latvia to Croatia’s preparations for the membership. The two sides exchanged opinions on current European issues and policies, with an emphasis on passing the new European Constitutional Treaty. In connection with the EU enlargement, Under-Secretary of State Popens mentioned recent discussions on the future of Europe, and expressed his conviction that they would not reflect on Croatia’s membership.
Under-Secretary of State Popens pointed to very good bilateral relations and Latvia’s active support to Croatia’s membership in Euro-Atlantic associations.
