State Secretary Pejčinović-Burić held lecture in Madrid

State Secretary for European Integration at the MFAEI Marija Pejčinović-Burić visited Madrid 6 March 2006, where she held a lecture at the International Affairs and Foreign Policy Institute (INCIPE), entitled Croatian Road to the EU Membership

State Secretary Pejčinović-Burić reviewed the process of Croatia’s approaching the EU, stressing that that is one of Croatia’s most important foreign policy goals and that Croatia is determined to continue along its path towards a full membership both in the EU and NATO. She also pointed out that Croatia is aware of its role in the region, as well as the responsibility it has in creating a permanent progress and stability in South East Europe and stimulating neighbourly relations. The Republic of Croatia wants to build those relations based on a full respect of the international law and equality.

At the end of her lecture, State Secretary Pejčinović-Burić expressed hope that Croatia would continue to have Spain’s support on its way to the EU and that its example would help Croatia to make that way as shorter and successful as possible.

Present at the lecture were Jose Lado, Spanish Ambassador and INCIPE President, Vicente Garrido, INCIPE Director, Alberto Navarro, State Secretary for the EU at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation, Raul Fuentes, Head of the Department for Central and Easter Europe at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation, as well as numerous foreign diplomats accredited to the Kingdom of Spain.
