The participants discussed regional cooperation in the context of approaching the EU. They adopted the recommendations for the implementation of political, structural and financial reforms of the CEI, with a view to achieving higher efficiency and visibility of its activities focused on the implementation of the programs and projects of support for individual CEI member States in the process of joining the EU.

State Secretary Plenković presented Croatian experience in the accession process, with a particular focus on the contribution to strengthening regional cooperation within the framework of the CEI. He spoke about the current situation in the region of SEE and Croatia's efforts to settle any open issues with the neighbouring countries on the basis of international law and the principle of good neighbourly relations. He stressed the important role of the CEI as a regional forum within which the relations between its Member States are being consolidated for two decades now, adding that the Republic of Croatia attaches particular importance to cooperation in the economy, energy, transportation, entrepreneurship, tourism and culture.

CEI is the oldest regional initiative, bringing together 18 states of Central and Southeast Europe. It is an instrument of regional stability and progress, and the Republic of Croatia is a member since 1992. In 2010, the CEI is chaired by Montenegro.
