State Secretary for Europe Andreja Metelko-Zgombić on Wednesday held bilateral political consultations with Bulgaria’s Deputy Foreign Minister Petko Doykov. Both sides agreed that Croatia and Bulgaria maintained excellent political bilateral relations, with a growing economic cooperation. The officials exchanged experiences concerning the fight against COVID-19, underlining the very good cooperation between the two countries, notably during the repatriation of their respective citizens and the enabling of the flow of goods during the worst days of the pandemic.

The two sides affirmed that Croatia and Bulgaria would continue to strengthen their cooperation, especially on matters of mutual strategic interest, such as the EU enlargement towards the Western Balkans as well as joining the eurozone and the Schengen Area. They exchanged views on membership talks with Albania and North Macedonia, which both sides firmly support. In that regard, the officials discussed the details of that process as well as the Berlin Process, which is co-chaired by Bulgaria and North Macedonia. The officials also discussed other topics on the General Affairs Council’s agenda.

In addition, the two sides took stock of the cooperation within the Three Seas Initiative, describing it as very important for attaining European standards and improving ties among the 12 member states.
