State Secretary for Europe Andreja Metelko-Zgombić on Monday held bilateral consultations with Denmark’s State Secretary for European Affairs and the Arctic, Carsten Gronbech-Jensen. The meeting was a follow-up to the recent visit by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and a confirmation of the advancement of contacts between Croatia and Denmark on all levels. The two officials underscored the very good and friendly bilateral relations, pointing out the prospects for their additional strengthening in the areas of economy, green technologies and the transfer of knowledge. They strongly condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and exchanged views and experiences on the ways to help Ukraine, as well as on accountability for war crimes. In addition, Metelko-Zgombić and Gronbech-Jensen discussed topical European matters such as EU enlargement, notably the European perspective of the Western Balkans, as well as institutional reform of the EU, energy security, boosting competitiveness and the single market. Metelko-Zgombić thanked Denmark for having supported Croatia’s Schengen Area membership bid and highlighted the efforts to join the OECD. Gronbech-Jensen also attended a conference on “The Transformative Power of EU Membership: Croatian, Irish and Danish Experience”, which marked Ireland and Denmark’s 50th and Croatia’s 10th membership anniversary.
