State Secretary for European Affairs Andreja Metelko-Zgombić 17 February 2020 chaired a meeting of the General Affairs Council (GAC). The meeting focused on preparations for the extraordinary European Council meeting of 20 February, at which participants are to discuss the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). The GAC offered the first opportunity to exchange views on EC President Charles Michel’s proposal for the new MFF.

Metelko-Zgombić underscored that the Croatian presidency was committed to finding a common solution for the MFF. Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlić Radman presented Croatia’s position on it.

In addition, Metelko-Zgombić underlined that the exchange of views at GAC marked the start of an intensive and important week. “Time has come to reach decisions on the Union’s future budget. These decisions will determine the course of financing our priorities in the years ahead and affect all of our citizens and regions. It is time to decide what kind of EU we want,” the state secretary said.
