As part of the conference of Romania’s ambassadors and at the invitation of Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Secretary for European Affairs Andreja Metelko-Zgombić participated in a panel discussion on “The challenges ahead of us in a changing EU: a new European leadership and the longstanding enigma of Brexit. What priorities and expectations does the future Croatian presidency of the EU Council have?”

The panel also saw the participation of Leonard Orban, the European Affairs Advisor to Romania’s President, and George Ciamba, Minister Delegate for European Affairs. The participants presented the challenges and results of Romanian’s Council of the EU chairmanship.

Metelko-Zgombić commended Romania on chairing the Council of the EU and reflected on the progress of Croatia’s preparations, adding that Croatia faced a number of challenges given that it takes over the chairmanship at the start of the new institutional cycle, MFF and Brexit.

The state secretary also presented the priorities of Croatia’s Council of the EU chairmanship: economic growth, security, linking and enlargement. Croatia also plans to organize two summits: and EU-Western Balkans summit and a summit on the Eastern Partnership.
