State Secretary Matušić participates in marking of 25th anniversary of Sub-Regional Arms Control Agreement

The commemoration was held online, with the participation of the signatory states Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia and Serbia

The commemoration was held online, with the participation of the signatory states Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia and Serbia. Representing the international community were the head of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre, representatives from the contact group (France, Italy, Germany, U.S. and UK), as well as the RACVIAC director.

Addressing the event, Matušić said that in the 25 years of its consistent implementation, the Agreement had become one of the key mechanisms for maintaining peace, security and stability in Southeast Europe, and was recognized as the only successfully implemented conventional arms monitoring mechanism in the world to date. The lessons learned from the implementation of the Agreement can significantly contribute to the debates on the future of conventional arms control in Europe and the world, especially today when we are witnessing the erosion of European security architecture and termination of some of the existent arms control agreements. Matušić concluded his address by underscoring that the Agreement was a living mechanism that the parties are constantly trying to upgrade, modernize and keep relevant for the security challenges of today.
