State Secretary Matušić meets with Uzbek deputy foreign minister

On February 19, 2025, State Secretary for Political Affairs Frano Matušić met with Olimjon Abdullaev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The meeting confirmed the very good and friendly relations between Croatia and Uzbekistan. Both sides expressed mutual satisfaction with the growing dynamic of visits in the recent period, as well as with the high-level visits planned for this year.
 
State Secretary Matušić emphasized that Croatia considers Uzbekistan an important political and economic partner in Central Asia. He thanked Uzbekistan for hosting the first-ever EU-Central Asia summit on April 4, 2025, in Samarkand, highlighting Uzbekistan's commitment to regional cooperation and building closer ties with the European Union.
 
The interlocutors discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of labour migration, with the Uzbek side presenting its system for preparing its citizens to work abroad. Regarding the strengthening of economic cooperation, both sides agreed that there is potential for further development of collaboration in the areas of tourism, pharmaceutical and food industries, IT sector, and telecommunications. There was also a shared desire to strengthen cultural cooperation, especially in light of the recent celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Croatia and Uzbekistan. The two officials also exchanged views on the current geopolitical situation in the region and the world.
