State Secretary Matušić holds political consultations in Georgia

State Secretary for Political Affairs Frano Matušić 12-13 September 2023 held political consultations with Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Teimuraz Janjalia, a follow-up to the consultations held in Zagreb in November 2021.
 
Focus was placed on bilateral relations, multilateral cooperation, as well as regional and global matters, with emphasis on Georgia’s EU and NATO accession.
 
In regard to deepening Croatia-Georgia cooperation, the collocutors highlighted the sectors of security, justice, trade and tourism.
 
The Croatian side reiterated its strong support for Georgia’s efforts to meet all the recommendations along its EU path, underscoring willingness to continue providing practical assistance in terms of the transfer of Croatia’s negotiating know-how and experience.
 
Janjalia underlined Georgia’s commitment to EU accession, adding that the majority of Georgian citizens supported Georgia’s EU membership.
 
Discussing current challenges and crises on the European continent, the collocutors reflected on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the security situation in the wider region. In the context of helping Ukraine, Matušić pointed out the upcoming International Donor Conference on Demining in Ukraine, which is to be held 11-12 October in Zagreb.
 
During his visit to Georgia, Matušić also met with the Vice-Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze. The two officials exchanged views on the current foreign policy topics and the role of parliaments in the EU accession process.
