State Secretary Matušić attends third EU-CELAC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting
The meeting, organized by CELAC pro tempore chair Argentina, welcomed the activities within the EU-CELAC cooperation, underlining the role of the meeting in the strengthening of bi-regional relations. Ministers also discussed the current bi-regional and global topics.
Addressing the event, Matušić reflected on the fact that we live in a time of simultaneous and interconnected crises that have a political and economic impact on both regions, notably in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, stressing that the circumstances required a decisive joint action.
On the regional level, Croatia’s LNG terminal on the island of Krk contributes to energy security and diversification, and Croatia is investing additional EUR 180 million in its upgrade. Apart from providing for itself, Croatia is able and ready to supply its neighbours and Central Europe as well.
In addition, Croatia is investing in renewable energy sources, with third of energy consumption and nearly half of electricity production already coming from renewable sources.
On the margins of the EU-CELAC meeting, Matušić held bilateral talks with the foreign minister of Guatemala, deputy foreign minister of Argentina, deputy foreign minister of Uruguay, deputy foreign minister of Costa Rica, and director-general for political multilateral affairs at Paraguay’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with whom he signed a memorandum of understanding in diplomatic training. The MoU provides basis for additional cooperation, training and exchange of Croatian and Paraguayan diplomats. Matušić also met with DAIA President Jorge Knoblowitz, with whom he discussed Croatia’s upcoming IHRA presidency. On that occasion, the Croatian delegation visited the Holocaust Museum.
