State Secretary for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Zdenko Lucić on Friday at the Croatian parliament presented a report on the implementation of official development assistance (ODA) in 2022.

Croatia’s ODA in 2022 totalled €135.2 million, which was 61.2% more than in 2021.

The largest share, slightly more than 60%, went to development cooperation. Humanitarian aid abroad, which includes accommodating displaced persons from Ukraine, made for around 40%.

The Croatian government strongly and consistently advocates cooperating with and assisting the countries of Southeast Europe, which are of special interest to Croatia. This is especially important in the context of EU enlargement and the preservation of Croatian identity in these countries.

Croatia is a staunch advocate of the development and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its journey towards the EU. This contributes to the strengthening of standards in all areas, which is of interest to Bosnia and Herzegovina and all its citizens, including Croats. We would like to highlight that the preservation of Croatian language, culture and identity abroad is our constitutional obligation. Therefore, in 2022, Croatia continued to support the development and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its Euro-Atlantic journey.

Throughout 2022, Bosnia and Herzegovina saw the implementation of projects aimed at strengthening and developing democratic institutions, economy, culture, agriculture, sports, science, and infrastructure.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in 2022 continued to support the promotion of Croatian language and culture among Janjevo youth with the aim of strengthening the ties with Croatian diaspora there.

Developmental-humanitarian efforts by donors in fighting the consequences of COVID-19 pandemic continued throughout 2022.

Croatia’s development cooperation and humanitarian aid continued to strengthen its international role. By taking part in global initiatives in 2022, Croatia has underlined its role as a solidary and responsible EU members state as well as a reliable partner to all developing countries.
