State Secretary Lucić attends informal meeting of FAC (Development)
State Secretary Zdenko Lucić 6 and 7 March 2022 in Montpellier attended an informal meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (Development).
Along with EU development ministers, the meeting was attended by High Representative Josep Borrell, International Partnerships Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen as well as Neighbourhood and Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Várhelyi. Also joining the discussion were President of the European Investment Bank Werner Hoyer and EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso.
The meeting began with a discussion on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine. The participants underscored the EU’s strong support and unified response. Lucić said that Croatia had dispatched humanitarian aid not only to Ukraine, but to Moldova as well, to help with the influx of refugees. He added that Croatia had already accommodated more than 2000 Ukrainian citizens.
The participants then discussed the geopolitical dimension of the EU’s international cooperation and development policy. In the context of incorporating biodiversity into the EU’s development policies, the participants underlined the possibility of supporting sustainable agriculture and food systems in partner countries.
