State Secretary Hido Biščević received Chilean Senate’s delegation led by its President Sergio Romero

State Secretary for Political Affairs at the MFAEI Hido Biščević received on Monday, 23 January 2006, the Chilean Senate’s delegation led by the Senate’s President Sergio Romero

Along the Senate’s president, the delegation was composed of the Co-ordinator for Congress and Senate, Ambassador Mariano Fontecilla, and Chilean Senator of Croatian descent Baldo Prokurica.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the high level of relations between Croatia and Chile, pointing out that the friendly relations between the two countries are also due to the numerous Croatian community in Chile.

The need to further deepen and enhance the economic and cultural co-operation was especially pointed out. Both sides stressed the importance of the co-operation on a multilateral level, by working through various organisations and forums, especially the UN, whereby Romero pointed out that the Chilean Senate strongly supports Croatia’s candidacy for the UN Security Council 2008/2009.

State Secretary Biščević informed the Chilean side about Croatia’s activities in approaching the Euro-Atlantic integration and with the situation in the region, pointing out that Croatia, as a candidate for a full EU membership and a future member, is prepared to play an active role in the stabilisation of the situation in South East Europe.
