State Secretary for Political Affairs Frano Matušić on 28 June in Rome attended a mistrial meeting of the Global Coalition against Daesh. The meeting was led by Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The goal of the meeting was to underscore the Coalition’s unity and solidarity in fighting Daesh, notably in Africa, coordinating partner activities in Iraq and offering additional assistance to Syria and Iraq through the stabilization process.

Even though Daesh no longer controls the territory in Iraq and Syria, its threat remains. The ministers therefore adopted a joint communique, reaffirming determination to continue the fight against Daesh and create conditions for the enduring defeat of this terrorist group. The ministers emphasized the protection of civilians as a priority and affirmed that international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law must be upheld under all circumstances.

Croatia once again underlined its commitments to the Coalition’s efforts and goals.
