State Secretary Davor Božinović participated in international conference Bosnia and Herzegovina: a Road towards Stabilization, Prosperity and European Integration

The conference was organized by the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs and the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The conference was organized by the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs and the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Along with high political representatives such as Chairman of BiH Council of Ministers Nikola Špirić, High Representative and EU Special Representative to BiH Valentin Inzko and Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Balázs, the conference gathered numerous representatives of foreign ministries, the diplomatic corps, non-governmental organizations and the academic community.

As one of the opening speakers, State Secretary Božinović stated the reasons why BiH is important to Croatia, pointing out that it is in Croatia’s interest, as a NATO member and a soon-to-be EU member, to be surrounded by countries sharing the same values. He underscored Croatia’s support for BiH Euro-Atlantic path, recalling the recent visit by Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor to BiH, which had further stimulated the transfer of knowledge about the Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as the solving of the outstanding issues left between the two countries.

He also pointed out the importance of strengthening institutional capacities, which will make possible for BiH to meet the complex criteria for the EU membership, welcoming the renewed engagement by the US and the EU in facilitating the reaching of consensus on the necessary reforms.

He also said that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU and NATO membership is in the interest of the BiH Croats as well, while the current constitutional reform process should ensure them equality in the realization of their rights stemming from their constitutive status.
