State Secretary for Political Affairs Zdravka Bušić 13 September 2017 received a delegation of the Seniors of Slovak Diplomacy, led by its president Silvester Minarovič.

The Slovak association of retired diplomats visited Croatia at the invitation of a similar association – the Croatian Diplomatic Club, whose president is Smiljan Šimac. This exchange visit is the first such cooperation set up between two sister associations which, apart from active, gather retired diplomats, consuls general and other career diplomats.

The meeting discussed the time-honoured cultural and historical ties between Croatia and Slovakia as well as bilateral relations based on a number of congruent views on the current issues. Underscored were the values of retired diplomats’ experience and know-how, which is an important prospect in the two associations’ future cooperation. Possibilities open up for an exchange of opinions on topics of joint interests, while lectures by Slovak and Croatian diplomats are being organized. The participants described as valuable the prospect of transferring the experience of “diplomatic seniors” in the education and training of new generations of diplomats, which the Slovak side is already successfully implementing.
