State Secretary Zdravka Bušić attended a meeting of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation, held 26 January 2017 in Vienna

State Secretary Zdravka Bušić attended a meeting of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation, held 26 January 2017 in Vienna. The topic of the meeting was security in Southeast Europe.

In regard to Croatia’s chairing the implementing body of the Sub-Regional Arms Control Agreement (so-called “Article IV”), Bušić underlined the positive experiences concerning its implementation and success. She said the agreement played an important role in the security architecture of Southeast Europe and could serve as a model of building trust and military transparency in other OSCE crisis point.

Speaking in general about the security in Southeast Europe, Bušić underscored numerous challenges, such as the rise of populist rhetoric, youth radicalization, threats to territorial integrity and disregard for international and bilateral agreements. She said she was convinced that Europe’s security could be strengthened through dialogue, respect for the international law and implementation of common obligations.
