On Wednesday, May 27, 2020, State Secretary Nikolina Brnjac attended an extraordinary plenary session of the European Parliament in Brussels.

The single topic on the agenda was the EU Recovery Plan, presented by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The Recovery Plan entails a new instrument worth EUR 750 billion as well as EUR 1,100 billion within the amended 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework.

State Secretary Brnjac underscored that the priority of the Croatian Presidency was to launch discussions at all levels in the Council to reach an agreement among the member states on the new proposals. She also reminded the MEPs about the importance of continuing talks and reaching agreements on a number of legal acts and called for the continuation of cooperation.

Concluding her address, the state secretary emphasized that restarting European economy required a strong agreement among the citizens, students, companies, and local and regional units to ensure the availability of EU funds as soon as possible.

The next plenary session of the EP was announced for 17 and 18 June 2020.
