State Secretary Biščević received to farewell visit Iranian Ambassador Jafar Shamsian

State Secretary for Political Affairs Hido Biščević received 5 September 2006 to a farewell visit the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Croatia, Jafar Shamsian

The two agreed that Croatia and Iran are two traditionally friendly countries with highly developed relations. State Secretary Biščević thanked the Iranian Ambassador for his professional and personal contribution to the development of two countries’ relations during his 4-year mandate in Croatia.

State Secretary Biščević also pointed out that Croatia is actively monitoring the current events regarding the Iranian nuclear program, describing the issue as one of the central international relations challenges. He said that Croatia, as a candidate country, shares the EU policy on the subject and advocates a more intense political dialogue, with the expectations that the Iranian side too will show openness and readiness to a solution.

Ambassador Shamsian said he has established cordial relations in Croatia, both personally and professionally. He emphasized the embassy’s good co-operation with the Croatian Government and the state administration bodies, pointing out that Iran and Croatia have signed more than 20 bilateral agreements in the past period.
