State Secretary Biščević received Head of EC Delegation Vincent Degert

State Secretary for Political Affairs Hido Biščević received on 6 November 2007 the Head of the European Commission’s Delegation to Croatia, Vincent Degert, who handed him the European Commission’s 2007 Report on Croatia’s progress in acceding to the European Union

The Croatia 2007 Progress Report was adopted at the European Commission’s session held 6 November 2007 in Brussels. It is a document that analyses Croatia’s progress during the past year. The Report was officially presented by EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, commending the Republic of Croatia.

During the meeting with Ambassador Degert, State Secretary Biščević expressed satisfaction with the fact that the Report confirms Croatia is continuing to meet the Copenhagen political criteria, conducting justice reform, and fighting corruption. State Secretary Biščević pointed out that, through a consistent government’s policy, Croatia has confirmed that it satisfies the political criteria for membership, that democracy and the rule of law have been strengthened, and that it has achieved a significant economic growth and maintained macroeconomic stability. He expressed his firm conviction that Croatia’s reform policy will continue, in the interest of further improving the economic and social circumstances, and that the EU negotiation dynamics will be sped up.

Both sides emphasised the fact that the Report has recognised Croatia’s stabilising role in the region.
