State Secretary at the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gordan Bakota received today, 21 October 2004, in Zagreb, member of the European Parliament and Vice Chairman of the PES Group (Party of European Socialists) Johannes Swoboda, who has recently become Rapporteur for Croatia at the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs

In an open and friendly talk, State Secretary Bakota informed Austrian member of the European Parliament about Croatia’s activities in co-operation with ICTY, return of the refugees and their property, and minority protection.

The issue of regional co-operation was described as extremely important. State Secretary Bakota familiarised Rapporteur Swoboda with Croatia’s activities in the region, especially the co-operation between Croatian ministries of foreign affairs and defence with the neighbouring countries.

Swoboda pointed out that it is the opinion of the Parliament that Croatia plays an important role by maintaining and strengthening the good neighbourly and friendly relations with all of the countries in the region. Bakota thanked Rapporteur Swoboda for a balanced approach to the existing open issues between Croatia and the neighbourly countries.
