Serbian defence minister not welcome in Croatia until further notice

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs sent a note to the Serbian embassy in Zagreb, condemning today’s statement by Serbian Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs sent a note to the Serbian embassy in Zagreb, condemning today’s statement by Serbian Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin, who said that his travel to Croatia "only the Serbian Army’s supreme commander, Aleksandar Vučić, can decide on, and not the Croatian ministers.”

The note underlines that Croatia is a sovereign country, a member of the European Union and NATO, and decisions on allowing foreign citizens to enter Croatia fall exclusively within the jurisdiction of Croatian institutions, in accordance with Croatian laws.

Mentioning Vučić as the person who decides on who can enter Croatia is an unacceptable and inappropriate attempt to negate Croatia’s sovereignty.

After a disgraceful incident in the Serbian parliament during the 18 April visit of a Croatian parliamentary delegation, Vulin's statement is another provocation that surely does not contribute to the development of good-neighbourly relations and mutual respect.

Due to the above-quoted statement, Serbian Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin is persona non grata in Croatia until further notice.
