A seminar on Communicating EU Enlargement and Macro-Regional Strategies was held 28-29 September in Dubrovnik, organized by the Venice Club and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, under the auspices of the City of Dubrovnik. The seminar brought together communication experts and stakeholders from EU member states and candidate countries to discuss the challenges in communicating EU enlargement and the work of macro-regions.

The participants underscored the key role of efficient and continuous communication, clear information and expectation management in explaining the changes and opportunities that the EU membership brings.

Proposed tactics include simple messages, bringing in politicians and the civil society, and different-type media campaigns. Fighting disinformation and tackling polarized tendencies were also pointed out.

Keys to success include political and governmental support, long-term efforts, adequate resources, coordination and motivated teams.

The seminar offered a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences, contributing to a better understanding and enhanced communication during EU enlargement.

The participants underlined two European macro-regions that Croatia participates in – the Danube and the Adriatic-Ionian, which have been recognized as a useful but underutilized instrument for assisting candidate countries on their EU journey.
