Regarding Slovenian MFA’s press release from 11th May

Regarding the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ press release from 11th May 2006, the Croatian MFAEI wishes to remind that the basic presumption for the solution of the remaining open issues between Croatia and Slovenia is a true, objective and correct presentation of the course of the negotiations on the national sea border and the debt payoff of the Lubljanska Bank - Zagreb main branch

Regarding the Plovanija border crossing, the Croatian MFAEI wishes to draw attention to the fact that a joint minute was signed in 1994, determining the Plovanija border crossing as an international border crossing, which clearly confirms that it is located on the Croatian national territory. The Slovenian side unambiguously confirmed this in a 2002 note. The border crossing was the subject of several letters by prime ministers of both countries, none of which from the Croatian side described it as a temporary crossing point, but confirmed that it is located on the Croatian national territory.

The Croatian MFAEI also wishes to remind that the Republic of Slovenia did not protest when in July 1991, based on the situation from 25 June 1991, the Republic of Croatia set up the Plovanija border crossing, but began doing so only in 1993, on reasons which, since they are legally unfounded, can only be described as politically motivated.

The Croatian MFAEI also wishes to draw attention to the recent statements from the Slovenian side that confirm the justness of Croatia’s proposal presented to the Slovenian side on 4 October 2005, saying that since 14 years of negotiations on the border issue failed to yield a mutually satisfactory solution, the matter be submitted to an international legal body.
