Reception held to mark 20th anniversary of Croatia's UN admission

Pusić said that Croatia already had been an internationally recognised country on the day of its UN admission, but that that had been the day when it had been put on the map of the world and that was why that day was so important

The reception, organised for numerous foreign and domestic officials, including representatives of the Government, the Parliament and the Office of the President, was the last of events held to mark the 20 years of Croatia's UN membership.

The hostess, Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić, said that Croatia already had been an internationally recognised country on the day of its UN admission, but that that had been the day when it had been put on the map of the world and that was why that day was so important.

She said Croatia was a small country, but could be active in important matters, adding that in multilateral organisations Croatia would promote issues such as human rights and women's rights, especially the right to education and the right to access medical services.

Guests at the reception were also addressed by UN Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Louisa Vinton, while UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon congratulated the anniversary via a video message.

In the musical part of the programme, performances were delivered by UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors Zlatan Stipišić Gibboni and Maja Vučić.
