The two officials said Croatia and Albania were connected by long-standing excellent relations, a joint interest in a functioning and stable region and by the headway being made by all Southeast European countries on their paths towards the EU.

Pusić recalled that Croatia and Albania were the only two countries in the region to have joined NATO and reiterated Croatia's readiness to help its neighbours in preparations for their admission to the alliance through the U.S.-Adriatic Charter, whose chairmanship would be taken over by Croatia on 1 July. She added that Croatia was willing to help Albania in preparations for qualifying for applying for EU membership.

Bregu congratulated Croatia on the signing of the Accession Treaty and invited Pusić to visit Tirana. She said Croatia served as an example to other countries in the region, voicing belief that Croatia’s assistance to Albania would solidify the two countries’ joint future within the Euro-Atlantic integration. Bregu emphasised that Albania, 90% of whose population is committed to EU membership was committed to promoting peace, prosperity and stability.

The two officials also agreed that the area of economy held great potential for progress and that economic cooperation should be further intensified.
