“Development cooperation policy in the service of contributes to identity building and communication, and represents a gateway to the strengthening of economic and political relations with abroad,” said First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić in the Parliament today presenting the 2012 Report on the Official Development Assistance for Abroad. “The geographical priorities of Croatia’s development cooperation are Southeast Europe as the immediate neighbourhood, the Southern Mediterranean and Middle East, as well as other countries around the world where Croatia can achieve added value,” Pusić said.
Development cooperation projects with countries of the Middle East were realized for the first time in 2012, in the areas of reconciliation and interethnic dialogue. In Morocco it was a girls’ education project; in Myanmar, a country dealing with the consequences of the longest civil was in history, it was a project of empowering women peace leaders; in Colombia, it was a humanitarian demining project.
