“Today there was no violence, as opposed to yesterday. Croatia should, must and can implement its laws as well as the standards of human and civil rights it wants to promote. The road towards a civil state and the future leads through equal rights and all that we ask to be recognised for us is recognised for any ethnic group anywhere in the world, including all citizens of Croatia. One must stay calm and level-headed now. The future of Vukovar as a Croatian and European city lies in its tradition and multiethnicity. Vukovar now needs its legacy and a step towards the future, while the government’s task is to remain steadfast in a position that gives the country, the region and Vukovar a chance for the future.”

The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) asked for a five-year moratorium on placing dual-alphabet signs in Vukovar?

“The HDZ had enough time to think about it. When its majority adopted the law on dual-script signs, they probably had good reasons for that."
