Oral hearing before arbitration tribunal in Croatian-Slovenian border dispute

An oral hearing in a border dispute with Slovenia will be held before the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague on 2-13 June. The hearing is the last part of the arbitration proceedings which Croatia and Slovenia initiated in order to settle their border dispute in a peaceful way, under the Arbitration Agreement concluded by Zagreb and Ljubljana on 4 November 2009. During these proceedings, Croatia and Slovenia already provided the tribunal with their memorials and documents corroborating their respective standpoints on the issue.

According to the schedule of the oral hearing, in the first week Croatia will present its case on Monday afternoon (2 June) and on Tuesday morning and afternoon (3 June), while Slovenia will respond on Thursday morning and afternoon (5 June) and on Friday morning (6 June). In the second week, starting on 9 June, Croatia will present its arguments on Monday morning and afternoon and on Tuesday afternoon (10 June), while Slovenia will respond on Thursday morning and afternoon (12 June) and on Friday morning (13 June).

First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić will attend the first day of the hearing on Monday 2 June.

Under the Arbitration Agreement, the hearing will not be open to the public, but a summary of the arguments presented by the parties will be published after the closure of the hearing (PCA Press Release).

A ruling is expected end-2014, early 2015.
