On margins of Ministerial Meeting on Security Council reform Minister Jandroković met with Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini

The meeting focused on the current state of Croatia’s EU accession negotiations

The meeting focused on the current state of Croatia’s EU accession negotiations. Minister Frattini reiterated his oft-stated strong support for Croatia’s soon accession to the EU and NATO.

Thanking for the Italian support, Minister Jandroković said that in spite of Slovenia’s blocking the accession negotiations, the completion of the negotiations by end-2009 remains Croatia’s goal. In that regard, he stated the arguments for solving the Croatia-Slovenia border dispute in accordance with the principles of the international law. He also pointed out Croatia firmly supports the EU principle of solving bilateral issues bilaterally, instead of dragging them into the negotiation process.

Expressing understanding for Croatia’s positions on said issue, Minister Frattini said that its final solution should be reached based on the international law, pointing out the importance of continuing the dialogue and cooperation with the European Commission.
