Mr. Miomir Žužul met with Ms. Ilinka Mitreva

On 14 June 2004, Mr. Miomir Žužul, the Croatian Foreign Minister, met with Ms. Ilinka Mitreva, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, who is officially visiting the Republic of Croatia, at the Croatian Foreign Ministry

Foreign Ministers Žužul and Mitreva exchanged views on the overall bilateral relations and on the cooperation within accession to the European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Cooperation between the two countries has been evaluated as very successful, without any open issues. In the economic field – mutual trade exchange is to be increased, and incentive is to be given to a more intensive cooperation of the economic sectors of the two countries. The Macedonian side proposed to organise a presentation of Croatian and Macedonian economic entities, a joint appearance at third markets, and the possibility of holding joint presentations of tourist possibilities of the two countries.

A visit of the Croatian Prime Minister Sanader and the Croatian economic delegation to Macedonia, in Autumn this year, was announced.

Croatia has made the greatest progress in the region in the process of approaching to the EU, and Minister Žužul emphasised the importance of Macedonia and its achievements on its path to the EU, and reiterated the readiness of the Republic of Croatia to continue intensive cooperation with the Republic of Macedonia within the region.

Cooperation between the two countries within the American-Adriatic Charter was considered, as well as joint activities related to the forthcoming NATO Summit in Istanbul at which both countries expect to receive a clear signal on the date of acceding to this political and security organisation.
