The European Union on Monday reached an agreement on the 7th tranche of 500 million euros for military aid to Ukraine, with a further 45 million for the training of Ukrainian soldiers in the EU.

“We have reached an agreement, all the countries are in concord,” Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman told the press after a meeting of the EU heads of diplomacy.

The overall worth of military aid for Ukraine from the European Peace Facility (EPF) has thus reached 3.6 billion euros. The EPF is an off-budget instrument established to enhance the Union’s ability to prevent conflicts, build peace and strengthen international security.

Ahead of the meeting, the Ukrainian foreign minister addressed the ministers in a videoconference, asking for an even stronger engagement in aiding Ukraine, Grlić Radman said.

The minister also reflected on his recent visit to Montenegro. “I call on Montenegro to take Europe’s message seriously in regard to its Constitutional Court and the controversial Law on the President. We need a stable Montenegro that is unequivocally oriented towards European values, and I hope that it will be able to overcome the extant crisis and proceed along its European path”, he said.

Apart from Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and Europe’s aid to the country, the ministers also discussed Sahel, the coastal states of West Africa, Iran, Armenia, Afghanistan, and Venezuela.
