First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić met today with Slovenian Defence Minister Roman Jakič, who is on a two-day official visit to Croatia.

Discussing Europe’s common foreign and security policy as well as the situation in Ukraine and the Southeast Europe, the ministers agreed that the region’s stability and security was extremely important for both Croatia and Slovenia. They stressed that the two countries would continue to advocate that NATO’s “open door” policy be put on the agenda of the upcoming NATO summit.

“It is important that the situation be looked at within a broader view when speaking about the region,” said Jakič, adding that the events in Ukraine had reactivated issues that concerned the region as well. Pusić said that unfreezing the MAP for Bosnia and Herzegovina was in fact “preserving the chance for the country to decide one day whether it wants to go in the direction of membership or not”. In regard to Montenegro, she reiterated that it was important that the country be invited to join NATO.
