Ministers Grlić Radman, Tramišak meet with Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjártó

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman and Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds Nataša Tramišak on Tuesday held talks with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.

The three ministers discussed further improvement of cross-border cooperation, notably transport connectivity.

“Croatia and Hungary successfully cooperate in a number of areas of mutual interest, as is evident from the continued strengthening of all forms of cross-border cooperation. Our goal is to jointly bolster the framework in order to encourage regions and citizens on both sides of the border to work more efficiently on common challenges,” said Grlić Radman.

He underscored that the two countries’ respective minorities were a valuable link. “They are also the users of cross-border projects, which have a positive effect on a number of areas, both geographically and substantially.

“I would like to reiterate that during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have proven the importance of cooperation between neighbouring countries and that the pandemic has not impacted our economic relations too severely, as evidenced by the stable trade,” Grlić Radman concluded.

Tramišak said she was proud of the 14 years of very successful cross-border cooperation between Croatia and Hungary. The two countries are preparing a joint programme for the next EU financial period, from 2021 to 2027, and Tramišak expressed hope that the draft would be completed soon.

In addition to transport, Tramišak also cited green policies, sustainable growth and stronger economic activity, including aid to small and medium-sized business on both sides of the border, as areas of future cooperation.
