Ministers Grlić Radman, Lamamra open Algerian-Croatian Business Forum

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Sunday, as part of his official visit to Algeria, together with Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra opened the Algerian-Croatian Business Forum.

In his address, Grlić Radman thanked the representatives of Croatian and Algerian chambers of commerce for organizing this event, and underscored satisfaction with the signing of the agreement on the establishment of a joint business council.

“One of the main goals of this forum is to provide a platform for the interaction between our companies, and to stimulate trade and cooperation,” the minister said. He reflected on the fact that Croatian companies, specializing in water supply systems, road construction and construction of dams and electricity generation facilities, had been present on the Algerian market for quite some time.

“Minister Lamamra and I have agreed that we will join our forces to transform the new economic potentials we have identified into concrete cooperation,” Grlić Radman said.

He expressed satisfaction that Croatian companies were interested in establishing cooperation with the Algerian side, notably in the fields of shipbuilding, mariculture, construction of ports and water infrastructure, as well as in agriculture, energy, IT and tourist trade.

In addition, Grlić Radman called on Algerian companies to use Croatian seaports as the gateway for the shipment of their commodities to Europe and to invest in the new industrial and business zones in Croatia. “I believe that today’s forum will be a big step forward in advancing our economic relations,” he concluded.

On the second day of his visit, Grlić Radman met with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The talks focused on the strengthening of the economic cooperation, importance of peace and stability in the north of Africa and the Middle East Peace Process. They also exchanged views on the importance of curbing terrorism and illegal migration.

“We are looking forward to the additional strengthening of our friendly relations, which are based on time-honoured understanding and partnership, and are a part of the larger EU-Algeria partnership. I am convinced that the increasingly stronger political relations between our countries will open up new opportunities for economic cooperation and investment,” Grlić Radman said.
