Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul met today, 9 March 2004, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Secretary General of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Jan Kubiš
After meeting with the OSCE Secretary General Kubiš, Minister Žužul said that the Croatian government is satisfied with the co-operations with OSCE mission in solving the priority issues and pointed out the Croatian government’s determination to tackle the issue of refugees and relations towards minorities so as to satisfy the set political criteria as soon as possible. Minister Žužul emphasised that, as regards the return and accommodation of the refugees, the Croatian government does not differentiate between nationalities and does not wish to create new problems by solving it.
OSCE Secretary General Jan Kubiš commended the Croatian government’s program, describing it as transparent and European, and offered expert help and support in solving all issues, as well as the support to Croatia on its way to the Euro-Atlantic integrations membership. In his reply to a question from the press, Secretary General Kubiš pointed out that the OSCE mission wishes to have a more active role, especially in regards to the refugees and displaced persons issue and the return of their property. International factors should not only encourage Croatia to solve these issues, but help it as well or, like the OSCE mission did, engage in drawing attention to the problems, added OSCE Secretary General Kubiš. Without solving of the technical issues, there can be no reconciliation, which is the ultimate goal, concluded Kubiš.
OSCE Secretary General was also received today, 9 March 2004, by Croatian President Stjepan Mesić, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, Vice President of the Croatian parliament Luka Bebić and representatives of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Croatian parliament. Later today, Secretary General Kubiš, accompanies by ministers Miomir Žužul and Božidar Kalmeta, as well as the head of the OSCE mission to Croatia, Ambassador peter Semneby, will visit a few villages in Zadar hinterland.
