Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul, who is currently on a working visit to the US, met 25 march 2004 in Washington with a number of US Congressmen, with whom he talked about the strengthening of the US-Croatian relations and the US support of Croatia's joining NATO
Eliot Engel, member of the US Congress International Relations Committee, stated after the meeting that he firmly supports Croatia’s entering NATO and EU, and will continue to work on strengthening the relations between the US and Croatia. He added that Croatia will profit from joining the NATO, just as NATO will profit from admitting Croatia. Congressman Engel is among those who are pushing for a new resolution of the US House of Representatives on supporting Croatia, Albania and Macedonia in joining NATO.
Congressman Christopher Smith, Chairman of the US Helsinki Commission, also announced his support to Croatia’s efforts in approaching NATO and confirmed the US-Croatian friendship and partnership.
The same day, Minister Žužul met in Washington with Andrew S. Natsios, Administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), with whom he talked about the Agency’s activities and the future of its mission to Croatia. Minister Žužul said that its activities would be particularly useful in the development of small enterprises, as well as in the previously war-torn areas and areas of the refugee return. Minister Žužul also met in Washington with members of the distinguished Croatian American Friendship Association.
